Marsy’s Law for Iowa Launches New Website

DES MOINES, Iowa (March 21, 2018) —Marsy’s Law for Iowa today launched a new website, connecting Iowans to valuable resources related to the legislation being considered by the Iowa House and Senate. The site, https://ia.marsyslaw.us, contains updated blogs, victims’ stories, social media content and an easy-to-use action center. It will also be updated frequently with videos used in Marsy’s Law for Iowa’s statewide digital media campaign.

“We are continuing our efforts to build a statewide organization, connecting Iowans at a grassroots level to their legislators in Des Moines, letting them know how supportive they are of a constitutional amendment protecting victims’ rights,” said Eric Baker, Marsy’s Law for Iowa state director.

Marsy’s Law for Iowa is a grassroots effort to provide constitutional protections to Iowa crime victims. Recent polling shows 85 percent of Iowans support adding protections for victims to Iowa’s constitution.

Currently, Iowa is only one of 15 states that do not have constitutional protections for victims. To amend the Iowa Constitution, a bill must pass two consecutive general assemblies before it goes to the ballot for Iowans to vote.

Marsy’s Law for Iowa is a grassroots coalition committed to giving victims of crime equal constitutional rights and protections in our state. Marsy’s Law is named after Marsalee “Marsy” Nicholas of California who was stalked and killed by her ex-boyfriend in 1983. Only a week after her murder, Marsy’s mother and brother walked into a grocery store where they were confronted by the accused murderer. The family had no idea he had been released on bail.
